WomenTechIceland and Huawei Partner on New Event Series in Iceland for 2021-2022

WomenTechIceland, an organization dedicated to amplifying the voices, innovations and leadership from within the Icelandic Tech Ecosystem to the global Tech Community while fostering worldwide network development and exchange, announced today their partnership with Huawei and Women in Technology Huawei for a series of events throughout 2021 and 2022, beginning with a panel discussion at Innovation Week Iceland: “Why Inclusive Teams Make Better Products and Services.”

“Partnering with Huawei to bring new events, resources and career-defining knowledge and relationship development to the Icelandic tech community builds on our existing work within Iceland over the past 4 years and extends our abilities for cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural exchange here at home and across the global tech industry, leveraging Huawei’s team, global resources, programs and commitment to diversity and inclusion in tech,” said Paula Gould, Co-founder and Chair of WomenTechIceland.

“WomenTechIceland’s strong focus on serving the entire Women in Tech community in Iceland and aligning it with communities abroad, complements Huawei’s mission to upskill talent, inspire interest in STEAM and increase diversity and inclusion within the tech sector globally,” said Beatriz Garcia Martinez, Public Affairs Manager, Iceland Branch,Huawei Technologies Sweden.

The partnership will bring forward discussions and events to underscore the importance of cross-cultural, cross-experience exchange in tech and provide a platform for women with great ideas to join or deepen their involvement in tech, with the end goal of helping to make these ideas marketable and scalable.

Each WomenTechIceland event presented by Huawei will focus on sharing key knowledge from various aspects of the tech sector, help contribute to upskilling/training and provide learnings that are relevant to working in tech generally. The approach will be interdisciplinary, attracting people from diverse backgrounds and industry sectors, and will promote the many different, creative ways to develop solutions to problems, informed from various points of view, skill sets and knowledge bases across STEAM. The series will culminate in a Hackathon-style and award event in 2022, where a participating project is selected by a panel of judges. The winning team will receive an award comprised of cash, assistance with grant proposals and other support resources.

This partnership builds on other Initiatives and partnerships from Huawei within Iceland and globally, including its recently announced Seeds for the Future program, a series of online courses promoting technology innovation and cross cultural exchange in areas such as 5G, ICT, IoT, strategic leadership training and streamlining network operations. Applications for Seeds for the Future are open now and courses take place from May 10-17, 2021.
